As stated in the Advisory Committee Charter, the purpose of this group is to provide advice "on the development of a reuse plan and on matters relating to future uses of the Fort Hancock Historic District of Gateway National Recreation Area." This committee will develop a plan which will complement Gateway's General Management Plan (GMP), which is under revision. Members were chosen by the Secretary of the Interior from multiple applications in accordance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act of 1972 (FACA).
